 WMUV is rich in history! As such, we’ve created a reference for
commonly-referenced terms, organizations and people.

  • Abigail Girls

    A group of girls who are active in missions education organizations in their local churches and who exhibit exemplary leadership skills.

  • Acteens

    The WMU missions education organization for girls in grades 7- 12.

  • Annie Armstrong (1850-1938)

    Led women to unite in mission endeavors that ultimately led to the formation of Woman's Missionary Union, for which she served as the first corresponding secretary.

  • Association

    A group of Baptist churches that work together to do missions work.

  • Challengers

    The WMU missions education organization for boys in grades 7-12.

  • Children in Action (CA)

    The WMU missions education organization for boys and girls in grades 1-6.

  • Christian Women’s Job Corp (CWJC)

    WMU ministry in which women in need are equipped for life and employment.

  • Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF)

    The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship is a Christian network of individuals and churches working together to spread the hope of Christ.

  • CrossRoads Camp and Conference Center (CRCCC)

    Owned and operated by WMU of Virginia, CrossRoads Camp and Conference Center, is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains about halfway between Lynchburg and Charlottesville VA, on the Little Piney River.

  • Camp Little Cross Roads (CLCR)

    Original name of CrossRoads. From 1985 until 1998, the camp was affectionately known as Camp Little Cross Roads. In order to more effectively reflect the mission and goals of the year-round center, the name was then changed to CrossRoads Camp and Conference Center.

  • Girls in Action (GA)

    The WMU missions education organization for girls in grades 1-6.

  • International Mission Board (IMB)

    The missionary sending agency of Southern Baptists that deploys missionaries outside North America. Formed in 1845, IMB is in Richmond, VA.

  • Leader in training (LIT)

    The LIT program is a Leadership development program at CrossRoads. Aimed at summer campers 14-17 who desire to grow their Christlike leadership skills.

  • Lottie Moon (1840 - 1912)

    Southern Baptist missionary to China. Lottie Moon gave her life for the Chinese people she loved.

  • Lottie Moon Offering for International Missions

    This offering supports the work of the International Missions Board. Named after Lottie Moon, missionary to China.

  • Mission Action Project

    Missions is evangelism and ministry that crosses cultural, geographical, or language barriers. This is the term used by the WMU for such projects.

  • Mission Friends (MF)

    The age group of the Woman’s Missionary Union providing foundational missions experiences for Preschoolers.

  • North American Mission Board (NAMB)

    The missionary sending agency of Southern Baptists that deploys missionaries in the United States, Canada, and their territories, with the task of sharing Christ and starting churches.

  • Pure Water Pure Love

    WMU’s Compassion Ministry Pure Water, Pure Love works to supply missionaries with water filters, provide the people they serve with wells that offer clean water, and supply water filters for short-term missions trips.

  • Royal Ambassadors (RA)

    The WMU missions education organization for boys in grades 1-6.

  • Sisters Who Care (SWC)

    The WMUV ministry organization for African American Women on mission with God.

  • State Panelist

    The State Panelist program is a leadership opportunity for young women who exhibit a strong commitment to their faith and to missions. Teen girls in grades 7-12 may apply for the role of Virginia State Panelist through WMUV.

  • Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)

    Virginia Commonwealth University is a public research university in Richmond, Virginia. VCU was founded in 1838

  • Virginia Missions Network

    Participants, groups, or individuals from non-BGAV churches, including non-Baptist churches, who desire to participate in WMUV ministries may establish their connection through the Virginia Missions Network. Participating churches or individuals are asked to give annually to support the work of WMUV.

  • Women’s Getaway

    Annual Women in Ministry & Missions event sponsored by WMUV

  • Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU)

    WMU is a missions education, prayer support, and missions involvement organization. Founded in 1888, the Woman's Missionary Union is headquartered in Birmingham, AL.

  • Woman’s Missionary Union of Virginia (WMUV)

    WMUV, founded in 1874, was born as a result of women organizing to help raise funds to supply Lottie Moon and her sister Edmonia with a home in China.

  • World Crafts

    WorldCrafts partners with artisan group around the world to provide sustainable, living income and the offer of eternal hope to artisans, their families, and communities.

  • Youth on Mission (YOM)

    The WMU missions education organization for Students in grades 7- 12
