WMUV Awarded Prayer Partner Grant

The Virginia Department of Health, Office of Health Equity awarded WMUV a Prayer Partner Grant of $20,000.00. The funding is made available through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Initiatives to Address COVID-19 Health Disparities Among Populations at High-Risk and Underserved, Including Racial and Ethnic Minorities and Rural Communities.

Our mission action project is called P3-Prayer, Prevention, and Education. In collaboration with selected local churches food distribution sites or other outreach ministries on the Eastern Shore, in Martinsville, and in Bluefield, these funds will allow us to distribute N95 high-quality masks, home testing kits, printed educational materials, and coordinate vaccination opportunities on-site. The latter will be in collaboration with the local health department or local pharmacy.

At the appropriate time, we will be announcing volunteer opportunities for these one-day events in varied locations. Many thanks for the support of our board, the Baptist Nursing Fellowship, and the staff of the WMU of Virginia for their leadership.
