International Missions

WMUV spans the world through its international mission opportunities.

India partnership

In India:15 million children live as bonded child labourers.
18 million children live on the streets, homeless and without hope.
2 million children do not live to see their first birthday.
500,000 children are forced into child prostitution.
100 million children in India between 6 and 14 years of age are out of school and at high risk for becoming child labourers or criminals.

The Precious Children International Village was dedicated on February 9, 2008. Dr. Jerry Jones and Dean Miller of the Virginia Baptist Mission Board spoke at the occasion. Precious Children is the response to the situation many children face in India. These children are provided with a balanced diet, clothing, primary health care and education.

WMUV has scholarshipped women to attend the India Baptist Theological Seminary (the only Baptist seminary in India that accepts women) for years. WMUV ladies have also been helping with VBS at the Precious Children’s Village for years. For 2010 we are expanding our partnership in several ways: we are helping 6 women attend seminary, hosting and conducting the women’s leadership conference, and launching WMU of India.

In 2010, WMUV helped begin the first Woman’s Missionary Union of India!

Contribute to Precious Children. These can be funds, clothes, books, and other educational supplies.

Remember these children in your thoughts and pray for them. There are thousands of people praying for these children globally. They can feel the presence of God through these prayers.   www.preciouschildren.org

Roma Gypsy Women

In 2010 WMUV sent an exploratory team to Hungary to minister to the Roma Gypsy womenRead the trip blog!)

The Roma Gypsies have long faced global discrimination. During World War II, 80% of some Romany populations were killed in the Nazi holocaust. The Roma continue to face subtle discrimination in the West as well as open hostility in Eastern and Central Europe. They remain a people on the move, prompted partly by political unrest in the Balkans and ethnic discrimination in areas like Poland, the Czech and Slovak Republics, and Romania. Although some progress has been achieved by the missionaries in Hungary, the recent economic instability has caused additional discrimination and violence against this people group. WMUV believes great opportunities to reach the women exist in the midst of these challenges, and will seek additional ways to share the love of Christ. If you are interested in more information or helping to support this particular outreach, email wmuv or call 1-800-255-2428.

International Justice Mission

International Justice Mission (IJM) is a human rights agency that secures justice for victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. In the tradition of heroic Christian leaders like abolitionist William Wilberforce and transformational leaders like Mother Teresa and Martin Luther King, Jr., IJM’s staff stand against violent oppression in response to the Bible’s call to justice (Isaiah 1:17): Seek justice, rescue the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow. As you or your church steps forward in the adventure of following this call to justice, we believe that you will discover that this work is truly a journey. And, like any journey, IJM believes your trip will be most successful if you have prepared spiritually for it, and if you have the right tools to use along the way.  Click here to learn more about how to take the first step in that journey.
