Updraft (sm)

Updraft is technically a weather term – it’s a strong upward movement of air that often produces a thunderstorm.
It’s a powerful movement with big results.
For WMUV, UpdraftSM is a customized mission experience for middle and high school students (ages 12-18). Previous UpdraftSM teams have served in Roanoke, Norfolk, South Africa, and Charlotte. UpdraftSM is intentionally designed to be more than just a short-term mission trip – we want to ensure that the trip is one step toward sustainable missional living for the students and adults who participate.
The activities completed during UpdraftSM are based upon the passions and gifts of the team, as well as the needs of the community they are serving.
Some possibilities include working with:
- Construction
- Painting
- Music
- Day Camps
- Vacation Bible School
- Food Pantry
- Homeless Shelter
WMUV is here to be a resource for you in your planning. The Updraft Leader Guide will also be available for you to download from our site very soon.
