Women’s Get Away

Women’s Get-Away

The cool, crisp air and beautiful fall leaves provided a wonderful backdrop for over 800 women who gathered

for the Women’s Get Away, November 4-6. Jo Saxton and Sally Breen of 3D Ministries challenged us to examine

the labels that define and limit our ordinary lives, and allow our extraordinary God to make an exchange,

restoring our identity and releasing us into the fullness of His calling.

The presence of the Holy Spirit was evident as we worshipped our Lord through the stirring music played by

Keith Tan, listened to personal testimonies, and attended breakout sessions designed to inspire us to ‘join Jesus

Christ where He is at work in the world’. Indeed, we were greatly blessed by those who came from Panama and

India, as well as other states in the U.S.

WMUV 111th Annual Meeting

Keynote speaker, Wanda Lee, Executive Director, national WMU challenged members to break through the barriers and hindrances which prevent

them from what God wants them to do saying, “God knows the way to work…is through ordinary people.”

National WMU president Debby Akerman spoke of a bright future for WMU as more and more women find the organization is a powerful vehicle for

expressing their mission commitment. Citing the various generations present, Akerman said, “We must ask each generation of WMU to be determined

to hold to the core values of WMU. It will take all of us committed to move from what is ordinary in life to what is extraordinary in Jesus.”

Ann Brown of Gretna, VA was elected to a fourth term as WMUV president. In her address she spoke of the highlights for WMUV in 2011, and also

of the challenging financial situation facing the organization. “We will have to make changes and we don’t know what they will be, she added. We

encourage you to support Cooperative Missions and Alma Hunt, and pray for us as we navigate the

changes.”

In other action, WMUV elected Betty Shelton, of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Amherst, as vice

president/secretary and four members-at-large to its board of trustees: Debby Ashley of Calvary Church in

Lovingston; Abbie Duenckel, minister of education and students at Ridge Church in Richmond; Sarah

Pelfrey of Ferry Farm Church in Fredericksburg; and Judy Vicars of First Baptist Church in Gate City.

Hannah Craft of North Run Baptist Church in Richmond was recognized as this year’s Outstanding GA; The GAs of Hermitage Baptist in Church

View, VA. were announced as the 2012 Alma Hunt Amazing GA Group; the CrossRoads Summer Camp offering of $3,000 for the Ruth School in

Bucharest, Romania, was celebrated and an offering was collected for “Pure Water, Pure Love,” a WMU project which provides clean drinking
